A Discussion of a Managerial Slant
As I sit here listening to Rockiescast, it brings to mind a
question I was asked earlier in the week.
That was “Morgan, what do you think the Rockies need to do to turn
themselves around?” Now this kind
of question can bring up some very interesting answers from someone like
myself. My first response was to
say that the ownership of the team should be transferred to myself and my
homeboy Scott. Now, that is not
likely to happen, I went on to give my main thing that I think would help. Managerial change would be one of the
best things that I think would help the Rockies. A lot of you know that I have never been a fan of Mr. Hurdle
and think that everyone out there in Rockies land have been giving him too much
credit for pas success of the Rockies.
The World Series berth a few years ago was not of Mr. Hurdle’s
making. The team (which we no
longer have) is what took us to the Series that year. Now I do have to agree with my fellow fans from Rockiescast
and I don’t think that he should not be let go during the season but I also don’t
think that he should be with the team after this year.
Now on to those who I think would make a great manager. We have a few within the organization
that would make a great manager.
First off is one who has proven that he is a good manager and was the
first manager of the Rockies, Don Baylor.
Don has proven through a few different teams that he has what it takes
to bring a team around and be successful.
Next is the guy that we have coaching first base. I think that Glen Allen Hill is an
amazing baseball man, with the knowledge to handle the game and the ability to
handle the stress. My third choice
is someone that I don’t think is in the organization any more but was a great
coach for us. After just
checking the facts, Jamie Quirk is no longer a Rockie bench coach but for the
same reasons that Hill would be a good manager, Quirk would be a good manager
as well.
That is my take on Hurdlegate 09 and it is certainly open to
debate. Please feel free to
contribute by commenting on this blog or even on my favorite podcasters at
Rockiescast!

Some Inter-esting thoughts
Any chance I get, I watch baseball. I’m sitting here watching the Twins-Brewers game and I realized something. I love inter-league play. Since inter-league play has begun, some of the best rivalries have begun. Mets-Yanks, Dodgers-Angels, Good guys Vs Bad guys (Chicago), and many many more. It is the greatest thing that Bud Selig has done. In fact, it’s the only good thing that he has done, but that’s a discussion for another day. This first weekend of inter-league has just been awesome. Not only have the Rox taken two of three from the Tigers, but the quality of the ball games has just been amazing. That Yankees and Phillies series was awesome. I can’t wait for the Rox to go to Oakland and face one Matthew Thomas Holliday. There is a guy who is finally starting to hit well. Man, I wish I could be there for that one.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Generally speaking, pro atheletes support causes because it is good for their image. I may not praise them for that but it does help the cause. Occasionally, a pro supports a cuase because something has happened to them. This is the case with the reigning AL MVP Dustin Pedrioa. Oh the Joys of the Public Library
My boredom has gotten the best of me. As I sit in a public library (one of the best places to get internet and research stupid stat lines that mean nothing to anyone but me) I have caught myself staring at the two pretty girls sitting next to me studying and I figured that I need to do something productive with my time.
Todd, how I love thee, let me count the hits
Even after the Rox lost yesterday, I have reason to celebrate. Mr Rockie himself, Todd Helton set another milestone. 2000 hits! What an accomplishment. No other player has ever meant so much to the Colorado Rockies. We have some fantastic players in our time but no on has stood the test of time and played their entire career with us. Also, no one has set such lofty goals for the ne young crew to try and emulate and reach. While I have been critical of Mr Helton at times, I have truely enjoyed watching him play and will continue to love to watch him. Todd, you are one of the greatest hitters in our time and possibly ever. Congratulations and best of luck in the rest of the season.
I’ve got a Mancrush!
Something has started to bother me about the Rockies. We have been getting some great starting pitching, yet we can’t seem to win. Jorge De La Rosa (The DLR as the Rockiescast guys like to call him) Ubaldo Jimenez have been lights out lately. But the moment that they give it over to the bullpen, they destroy whatever good that has been done. What is it about the Rox that makes this happen? Is it the fact that we can’t ever keep anyone in the bullpen healthy? Is it the fact that we never seem to have a good bullpen? I just don’t understand what is going on. I wish I did. But of course if I had the money, I would own the Rockies and we’d have K-Rod as our closer and Grady Siezmore as our center fielder! There are plenty of good pitchers out there still available to us. Last time I checked, Ben Sheets still doesn’t have a team. I’m pretty sure he would do long long relief just to get back into the game.
I’m Starting to Hate Baseball Tonight!
Even though I haven’t had the chance to watch ESPN’s Baseball Tonight as much as I would like, I’m starting to hate them more and more. I was on their website today to watch some web gems, and I saw something very disturbing. The Rockies are the only team in the bigs without a web gem to there credit! How is this possible? The Kid Rox have some of the best defensive players in the league! Brad Hawpe has the best arm in any outfield, Dexter Fowler has such tremendous range that he gets to balls that I can’t even describe how much ground he covers and lets not forget that Todd Helton has won multiple Gold Gloves. And that is just three of our players. I’ve watched a lot of games and there has been many a play that should have been considered for a web gem, yet here we are. None. Its ridiculous! Now if you look at the web gem leaderboard, the guys who are on the top are some amazing defenders. I’m not trying to take anything away from these guys. I’m just trying to get our outstanding young players the credit that they deserve. But this is what happens when you’re a fan of a Denver sports team. If it is a pro team other then the Denver Broncos, you must automatically suck. Even the Denver Nuggets, who have been slaying everyone in there way lately, have been getting the down talk. I was watching the Nuggs game yesterday and all the announcers could talk about was “Dirk this and Dirk that”. I’m sick of it. Give Denver sports some credit. We can kick *** and take names. You better get with it BBTN crew, or I just might come after you!!!!
The A-Rod Mess
A-Rod has been at the center of controversy
since the release of the supposedly anonymous test
results were released. Now there is someone saying that
he used in high school because he gain about 25 pounds of
muscle between his sophomore and junior years.
This is the most ridiculous claim I have ever
heard. Just because a dude gains some weight,
especially in high school, doesn’t mean that he is using the
juice. From the time that I entered the Air Force, till
four months later, I gained forty pounds.
Almost all of that was muscle, so are you gonna
say that I was hitting the roids? No, lets give this
guy a chance to defend himself and let the investigation take
its course.
