April 2011

Scared of Giants

It’s tough to see.
Losing to the most hated team in the division (at least right now) is a
horrible thing to witness.  And to
top it off, they took it to our ace as well.

It seem that the boys in purple are heading down a path that
I never want to see.  Up till now,
the Rockies haven’t faced a team that had a winning record or has really shown
that they are a team worth fearing.
But now that the Giants are in town, we throw in the towel.  It’s nice to see the Rox win, but if we
can’t pull it out against the top teams in the bigs, they are in some serious
trouble.

Our much heralded offensive capabilities were nowhere to be
seen in the last two games.
Giants’ pitchers held the 3-4 hitters of Cargo and Tulo to 1-14.  I fear that these two are trying to hard
to live up to their unbelievable seasons last year and are pushing to
hard.  Let the ball come to you
boys.

Ubaldo was on the mound last night and innings two through
five looked great.  However, inning
one is what did us in.  I chalk
this up to him being on the disabled list and not facing live hitting.  No concern coming from your humble
blogger on this front.

Look for a great pitchers duel tonight as Matt Cain and the
DLR toe the rubber for the Giants and the Rockies.  Look for DLR to continue his strong start (2-0, 3.18 ERA)
and keep the team in this one.
Cain is going to be a tough nut to crack, but if the boys are patient, I
think they can pull it off.

On a roster note, Ian Stewart is being sent down to the
minors to get “back in sync” as manager Jim Tracy says.  I’m not sure what to make of Stew.  The man has some tremendous talent, but
can’t seem to put it together on the diamond at the big league level.  This will bear some watching.

Sorry for the newspaper like feel of this one.  Just wanted to get something out there
for you folks.  Feel free to
comment and add your voice to the discussion.

Rock Solid Start

How hot are the boys in purple right now?  I have never seen a Rockies team that
is off to as hot a start as these guys right now!  Tulo has really found his swing and Cargo is doing great
things.  Even John Herrera is
hitting bombs! (Congrats on the second career jack yesterday!)

Tulo went 10 for 16 over the Mets series with a homer in
each of the four, include one each in the double header on Thursday.  Looks like he is continuing his super
hot September here in April.  Kevin
Keegan, a friend on Facebook, calculated that he is on pace to put 94 baseballs
over the fence.  Doubt he can keep
that up, but he’s going send out a lot.
Barry Larkin on Baseball tonight has started calling him “Bad Dude”.  Lots of talk about him being the MVP.

Carlos Gonzalez hit his first homer on Thursday, which is
shocking only in the fact that it’s so late for his first.  I don’t think that it’s going to affect
his overall totals.  He is just
going to need a few 4 home run games!

On a somewhat baseball related note, good to see Scott and
Ted from the old Rockiescast back on the air.  Go check them out on dasbrodeo.com.  Loving the stuff so far guys!

That’s it for now everyone.

Peace,

Bleeding Purple
